Descriptions
Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA) is produced through bromine-promoted catalytic oxidation of para-xylene, followed by purification via hydrogenation. The process requires a broad range of titanium-clad equipment, with specifications that remain largely consistent across the different available technologies.
Coek has extensive experience in delivering PTA equipment for projects worldwide, successfully meeting the requirements of various leading licensors, including KTS (formerly Invista), Formosa Plastics, INEOS (formerly BP), Mitsubishi, CEPSA, Interquisa, and CKCEC.
Coek has developed unique expertise in designing and manufacturing high-pressure heat exchangers with Ti Grade 9 tubes. For applications that typically operate beyond the standard code-accepted temperature range, Coek has introduced a tailored specification with stringent requirements on both chemistry and mechanical properties. This advanced approach has positioned Coek as the global benchmark: on average, 95% of all Ti Grade 9 preheaters for PTA projects worldwide have been produced by Coek.
type
PTA products
Our specialised equipment is designed to perform under the extreme temperatures and highly corrosive conditions of PTA production. Built for long-term durability and unwavering process stability, it ensures maximum reliability and efficiency for your operations.
Reactors
Titanium-clad Oxidation Reactor
— PTAThe titanium clad oxidation reactor is the hard of the plant. Coek is involved in the fabrication of oxidation reactors with diameters up to 10 meter.
Columns
Absorber Column
— PTACoek has produced a wide range of Titanium clad columns for PTA applications with dimensions up to 80 meters in length, 8 meters in diameter, and weights up to 600 tons.
Heat exchangers
Titanium and Zirconium heat exchangers
— PTACoek is heavily involved in the fabrication of the preheaters for PTA. Especially the Ti GR9 preheaters are Coek’s focus, where 30 years of experience has lead to modified chemical and mechanical properties of the Ti GR9 tubes allowing to cover the high temperature requirements above the code limits, and avoid at the same time potential risk of cracks during fabrication or operation due to the hardness of the Ti GR9 grade.
PTA Materials
PTA production demands materials with high resistance to corrosion, temperature and pressure. These alloys ensure reliability in harsh process conditions.
Titanium
Excellent resistance to hot and corrosive PTA environments. Ideal for reactors and heat exchangers.
Zirconium
Outstanding corrosion resistance in chloride-rich conditions. Used in columns and piping systems.
Hastelloy
High-performance alloy for extreme corrosion zones. Ensures long-term durability in critical components.
Projects
From custom-built plate bending machines to corrosion-resistant reactors — our projects are engineered for performance and built to last.
